Acrobatic Arts Exams: November
Please note that exams and exam coaching classes are mandatory for dancers 6 and up.
Acro Dance challenges the Dancer to master both dance and acrobatic skills to flow seamlessly in their movement. Requiring dancers to have both dance and acrobatic training, Acro Dance offers more depth and variety to choreography and creates a much more versatile dancer. Acro technique includes balancing, limbering, tumbling and partnering, based in flexibility, contortion and strength.
An Acro Dancer must complete all of these skills, while seamlessly integrating musicality, emotional expression, extension, control and line. Skills taught in Acro Dance might look the same as gymnastics, but they are taught differently to compensate for the conditions. This style helps students to build great strength, control, coordination and flexibility.
At CMSD, we teach the Acrobatics Arts program, integrating the Acro Dance pre-school curriculum into our Dance Tots program and offering Acro Dance as an examinable class for older children. Acrobatic Arts is a professional curriculum for acrobatic dance, designed to promote excellence in flexibility, strength, balance, limbering, tumbling, basic contortion, and partner/group stunting for dancers.
Thoughtful progressions & structured levels assist students to properly train the dancers’ bodies to advance to the next level only when they are ready for it. This greatly reduces the potential for injury, creating more technically correct work and helps dancers to progress more quickly in the long run.
